Exciting partnership to help pupils build skills
A Glenrothes Primary School today launched an exciting business/education partnership with leading Scottish housebuilder Lomond Homes.
Caskieberran Primary School in Glenrothes was chosen over hundreds of other schools after the firm said its “exemplary standards” made it the perfect fit for the initiative, which aims to promote positive attitudes to life and work.
An official partnership agreement was signed at a ceremony in the school, attended by teachers, pupils and senior staff from Lomond Homes. It outlines pledges by the company including supporting the delivery of enterprise knowledge, mentoring P7s on a business project, and holding meetings with every single class in the school.
Alan Seath, Director of the Lomond Group, which includes Lomond Homes, said: "We share the Scottish Government's vision of promoting social enterprise, sustainable development and entrepreneurship, and over the last four years we have worked alongside many nurseries, schools, colleges and universities to show how these apply to the construction industry.
"Many young people have visited our sites to witness the industry at work, hear about our employees' experiences, learn about issues such as health and safety, and explore career opportunities which contribute significantly to economic growth in Scotland.
"During that time we have been searching for a school to link with for a longer-term partnership – one with strong values and real entrepreneurial spirit which struck the right chord with us – and we have found it in Caskieberran, which exceeded our expectations.”
To kick-start the initiative, the school ran a competition asking every pupil to design a logo reflecting its "Be all you can be" motto, and Lomond Homes’ "Live the difference" mantra. The pupil who came up with the most inspiring design concept was P2's Jamie King (6) from Glenrothes.
His logo has now been professionally designed with a helping hand from Lomond’s creative co-ordinator Debbie Kemp. The other pupils will also have a chance to benefit from her expertise in the coming months – she is set to visit the school to give a lesson on logo design – what a logo is and what it represents. This will be followed by a series of business enterprise lessons.
Jamie’s logo was unveiled today at the official launch event and will now have pride of place on all materials linked with the iconic partnership.
Caskieberran Primary School’s head teacher, Alison Henderson, said: “Caskieberran Primary School feels very privileged to have secured a partnership with such a proactive and supportive Scottish company.
“We have been encouraged by everyone from Lomond Homes’ enthusiasm and commitment. I am sure they will help us achieve the best for our pupils by allowing them to experience skills for learning, skills for work and skills for life in a real and meaningful context.”
