Caskieberran Primary School
In Scotland there is a shared ambition to give children and young people positive attitudes to life and work. Accordingly the Scottish Government is changing how education is delivered through: innovative teaching and learning; and working in partnership with key organisations such as the business community, to tackle structural barriers. Lomond Group shares the Government's aspirations and is actively involved with educational establishments in their attempts to inspire young people. We do this by allowing them to share our thoughts on enterprise, sustainable development, entrepreneurship and opportunities in the construction industry.
Lomond has historically always been closely involved with the local primary and high schools, but this has recently extended to include nurseries, colleges and universities. Children and young people visit our sites to see the construction industry at work. They hear from the employees, learn about issues such as health and safety, and of career opportunities in an industry which contributes significantly to economic growth in Scotland.

Throughout this engagement with many and varied educational establishments, one stood out as sharing many of the values we have as a family business. Alan Seath, Director of Lomond Group, reflected: “…it has taken a while but from all the schools we have visited it was pleasing to find one which struck the right chord with us all, and fortunately it is only five minutes from our offices. The staff and pupils of Caskieberran Primary are a credit to themselves.”

Lomond Group was so impressed with the school’s attitudes and enterprising approach to education that we chose to create a formal partnership with Caskieberran for the future. The school's motto is ‘be all you can be’ and the Lomond Group's mantra is ‘live the difference’. There was a synergy created through these simple but meaningful statements and it became evident to both parties that there was substance behind the words.
Consequently the school and Lomond Group ran a competition to design a logo which will represent the partnership. The winning design created by primary two's Jamie King has been worked up to a printable format by Debbie Kemp, Lomond Group's Creative Co-ordinator. Following on from this Debbie is now teaching children about graphic design as part of their learning experience.
An official launch of the partnership took place in January of this year. A partnership agreement was signed by Alan Seath and Caskieberran’s head teacher Alison Henderson, cementing what is hoped to be a long lasting relationship.
Representatives of the Lomond Group have since attended and thoroughly enjoyed a number of events at the school where the talents of the children have been on display. Throughout these few months working with Caskieberran we have already built up a strong relationship with the staff and children which has exceeding our expectations.
